Equipment

  • Mason jar
  • Immersion blender

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves lightly packed
  • 1 small garlic clove
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt plus more to taste
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Pinch of chili powder optional, for a little heat

Instructions

Blend Method:

  • Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor. Blend on high until the dressing is smooth and fully emulsified, about 20–30 seconds.

Immersion Blender Method:

  • Combine all ingredients in a mason jar or tall container. Blend until smooth and emulsified.

No-Blender Method:

  • Finely mince the basil and garlic (or use a microplane for the garlic). Add all ingredients to a bowl or jar and whisk vigorously until the dressing is well combined and emulsified.

Notes

  • Taste and adjust: Add more honey for sweetness or more vinegar for tang.
  • If the dressing thickens in the fridge, let it sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes and shake well before using.
  • For a smoother consistency without a blender, chop the basil very finely.
