- 2 lbs steak such as round steak or top sirloin, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 lb baby potatoes halved
- ½ medium onion diced
- 4 garlic cloves minced
- 1 teaspoon steak seasoning
- 1 packet beef gravy seasoning
- 2 tablespoons butter cut into small pieces
- ½ cup beef broth
- A few sprigs fresh thyme
- Chopped fresh parsley optional
- Optional gravy thickener: 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons cold water
Cut steak into 1-inch pieces and halve the potatoes.
Add steak, potatoes, onion, garlic, steak seasoning, and gravy seasoning to the slow cooker.
Add butter, beef broth, and thyme.
Cover and cook on LOW for 4–6 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, or until beef is tender and potatoes are fork-tender.
For thicker gravy, stir in a smooth cornstarch slurry during the last 15–20 minutes.
Remove thyme, stir gently, garnish with parsley, and serve.
- Cut the steak evenly: Try to cut the steak into similar-sized pieces so everything cooks at the same rate.
- Don't add extra salt: The steak seasoning and beef gravy seasoning already contain salt, so additional salt usually isn't necessary.
- For the best texture: Avoid overcooking the steak, especially if using a more tender cut such as top sirloin.
- Use baby potatoes: Their small size makes them ideal for slow cooking. If using larger potatoes, cut them into smaller, evenly sized pieces.
- Thyme is optional but recommended: Fresh thyme adds a subtle herb flavor that pairs especially well with the beef and gravy.
