Christmas Nutella Puff Pastries

Flaky puff pastry filled with Nutella and baked until golden brown, then dusted with powdered sugar. These easy Christmas Nutella puff pastries are perfect for holiday parties or baking with kids!
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 28 minutes
Servings: 6
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed but cold still
  • ¼–½ cup Nutella microwaved 15–30 seconds for easier spreading
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Equipment

  • Cookie cutters (4-5 inch ones work best)
  • Baking sheet

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Roll the thawed (but still very cold) puff pastry out on a parchment-lined baking sheet. If the pastry is thick (Pepperidge farm brand is very thick and needs to be rolled out more), roll it slightly thinner.
  3. Spread Nutella evenly over one half of the puff pastry sheet.
  4. Fold the uncovered half of the pastry over the Nutella layer.
  5. Use large cookie cutters (about 4-inch) to cut out shapes.
  6. Brush the tops with beaten egg. If your pastry warmed up too much while you were working on it, put it in the fridge for 5-10 minutes before baking. This will help the pastry to not puff up too much.
  7. Bake for 14–18 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. If the tops popped off, just press them back on once you take them out. They will stick back together as they coll.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

Make ahead suggestions:
  1. You can assemble/cut up the pastries and then put them in the fridge covered with a silicone wrap. Bake when ready to serve.
  2. Alternatively, you can bake them right away and then reheat by air frying it for a little bit to crisp them up again before serving.
Success tips:
  1. Pepperidge Farm puff pastry should be rolled much thinner. It includes two sheets—feel free to spread Nutella on one and top with the other.
  2. Always thaw puff pastry in the fridge and work with it while cold.
  3. Larger cookie cutters (about 4 inches) work best for keeping layers together.
