Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole
This Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole gets requested on repeat. Cubed chicken seasoned and baked until just cooked through, drained of excess liquid, then tossed with broccoli, minced garlic, ranch dressing, and a generous blend of mozzarella and cheddar, topped with the remaining cheese and chopped bacon, and baked until everything is bubbly, golden, and the broccoli is perfectly tender. It comes together in one baking dish, takes about 35 minutes from start to table, and tastes like the kind of dinner people associate with Friday nights when everyone is happy.

A Quick Look At The Recipe
- Recipe Name: Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole
- Ready In: 45 minutes
- Serves: 6
- Main Ingredients: boneless, olive oil, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, salt-free seasoning, bacon strips, garlic
- Why You'll Love It: This chicken bacon ranch casserole bakes cubed chicken with broccoli, ranch dressing, mozzarella, cheddar, and bacon in one dish for a cheesy, crowd-pleasing dinner ready in 35 minutes.
The draining step after the first bake is the technique that separates a great chicken bacon ranch casserole from a watery, disappointing one. Chicken releases a significant amount of liquid as it cooks and if that liquid stays in the dish when you add the ranch and cheese, it dilutes everything and prevents the sauce from clinging properly. Drain it, add the remaining ingredients, and what goes back into the oven is a concentrated, flavorful casserole that sets up properly and comes out exactly the way it should.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
It’s a complete one-dish meal. Protein, vegetables, cheese, and sauce all in one baking dish with almost nothing to clean up. This is the formula for a weeknight dinner that actually works.
The drain step is the game changer. Most chicken casserole recipes skip this step and end up watery. This one doesn’t and the difference in the finished casserole is immediately obvious.

It’s crowd-pleasing without exception. Chicken, bacon, ranch, and melted cheese. There is not a table this dish won’t work for.

Ingredients Needed to Make Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole

One baking dish and straightforward pantry ingredients. Here’s what you need:
- Fresh broccoli florets, bite-sized (added raw before the second bake; they cook through perfectly in 20 minutes without going mushy)
- Boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes (uniform cubes cook evenly and make the casserole easy to scoop and serve)
- Olive oil
- Salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt-free seasoning blend (the layered seasoning on the chicken before it goes into the oven)
- Bacon, cooked and chopped (added on top of the cheese before the second bake so it stays present and slightly crispy in the finished casserole)
- Garlic cloves, minced (added with the ranch and vegetables for a savory depth throughout)
- Ranch dressing (the sauce that coats every piece of chicken and broccoli and brings the whole casserole together)
- Shredded mozzarella, divided (half stirred into the casserole, half on top; mozzarella melts smoothly and provides the stretchy, gooey pull)
- Shredded cheddar, divided (half stirred in, half on top; adds a sharper, more assertive flavor that balances the mildness of the mozzarella)

How to Make Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole
Step 1: Season and Bake the Chicken
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Add the cubed chicken to a 9×13 baking dish. Drizzle with olive oil and toss with the salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and seasoning blend until every piece is evenly coated. Spread the chicken into a single even layer so it cooks uniformly. Bake for 15 minutes. The chicken doesn’t need to be fully cooked through at this stage since it will go back into the oven. You’re looking for mostly cooked with no longer raw pink in the center.

Step 2: Drain the Liquid
Remove the baking dish from the oven and carefully tilt it to one side to drain the liquid that has accumulated from the chicken. A significant amount of water and fat releases from chicken during baking and removing it before adding the ranch and cheese is the step that makes the difference between a properly saucy casserole and a watery one. Use a spoon to remove any remaining liquid if tilting doesn’t get it all.
Step 3: Add and Combine the Remaining Ingredients
Add the minced garlic, broccoli florets, ranch dressing, and half of both the mozzarella and cheddar to the baking dish with the partially cooked chicken. Stir everything together thoroughly until the chicken and broccoli are evenly coated in the ranch and cheese mixture and the garlic is distributed throughout.

Step 4: Top with Cheese and Bacon
Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and cheddar evenly across the entire top of the casserole. Scatter the chopped cooked bacon over the cheese layer, distributing it evenly so every scoop of the finished casserole has bacon in it.
Step 5: Second Bake and Broil
Return the dish to the 400°F oven and bake for 20 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and bubbling, the broccoli is tender when pierced with a fork, and the casserole is hot throughout. For a golden, slightly crispy top, switch the oven to broil for the final 2 to 3 minutes. Watch it closely during the broil since the cheese can go from perfectly golden to burnt quickly.

How To Store Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole
Refrigerator: Store covered tightly or in an airtight container for 3 to 5 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave on medium power in 60-second intervals or reheat the full dish covered with foil at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes.
Make-Ahead: Assemble the casserole completely through Step 4, cover tightly, and refrigerate for up to 2 days before baking. When ready to cook, bake from cold adding 5 to 10 extra minutes to the second bake time.
Freezer: This casserole freezes beautifully for up to 3 months either before or after baking. To freeze before baking, assemble completely, cover tightly with plastic wrap and then foil, and freeze. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before baking as directed. To freeze after baking, let the casserole cool completely before wrapping and freezing. Thaw and reheat covered at 350°F until heated through.
Serving Suggestions
Serve directly from the baking dish with a large spoon, scooping through all the layers so each portion has chicken, broccoli, melted cheese, and bacon. A piece of crusty bread or warm dinner rolls alongside for scooping up the ranch sauce is an excellent addition. A simple green salad with a light vinaigrette balances the richness of the casserole and rounds out the meal.
For a complete weeknight dinner spread, serve alongside the Honey Roasted Carrots with Whipped Feta for a side dish that adds sweetness and freshness alongside the savory, cheesy casserole. This was fabulous! I loved that it was basically protein and veggies….no carbs necessary. I used precooked bacon and perhaps used too much as the casserole was slightly salty (due to the bacon)…but that was my fault. Served this to my family and they all loved it! Keep the recipes coming. So enjoy them!
